Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) - Dragon*Con Edition!
Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving community of costuming that exists today and cosplay communities such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. In honor of the many fans who’ve displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), a weekly collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into our own super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.
Check out this week’s round-up of the Best Cosplay Ever on ComicsAlliance, featuring Red Sonya, the Grand Galactic Inquisitor, Dark Phoenix & Emma Frost (above), a guest appearance from Adam Hughes cosplaying Pam Poovey from Archer, and more!

Wolverine in his classic yellow and black costume. His looks changed many times, but one thing for sure, his claws remain. But there was also a time when the claws changed in looks as the adamantium lacing was removed from his body and his claws were simply bones.
Wolverine in a deathmatch with The Punisher. I saw this on eBay and thought that it was super cool. I believe that it is a one-of-a-kind custom diorama.

Ultimate Wolverine Bust

Never seen this one before. So it’s new to me. Wolverine statue with black leather costume. It’s not from any of the X-Men movies.
Are you happy with how Sabretooth has been treated in the movies?
In X-Men (2000), Sabretooth was Magneto’s main enforcer. I don’t recall him saying any memorable lines but he did his share of fighting. And they were just ok. I also do not recall any link being made between him and Wolverine.
In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Sabretooth was Wolverine’s half-brother. And prior to the events of the movie, the two had a close bond growing up but drifted apart as Sabretooth embraced his violent side, while Wolverine did not enjoy it as much.
In either case, we’ve only received snippets of Sabretooth’s personality as compared to his comic book character. For the longest time, Sabretooth is a staple bad guy making appearances in other series and clashing with other superheroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Gambit, Daredevil and Thor.
More importantly, Sabretooth is Wolverine’s archnemesis; the Joker to Wolverine’s Batman. The two had countless of one-on-one fights with the last one occuring in Wolverine #55 when Wolverine beheaded Sabretooth with the Muramasa Blade killing him permanently.
At this time, I’d like to say that the movies have not treated Sabretooth correctly and haven’t portrayed him as a ferally brutal assassin. It seems that other superhero characters from other movies such as Azazel from X-Men: First Class were better treated to be on the mark.
But then again, I don’t think that Wolverine has received proper treatment either. The closest depiction of comic book Wolverine in the movies is in X-Men 2 when the military raided the X-Mansion and Wolverine slash them up to bits.
Picture of a Sabretooth cosplayer having fun.
Prior to seeing X-Men: First Class, I purposely stayed away from reading any review or spoilers. I did not want to ruin the movie. And I’m glad I did. Though the movie is great, I thought that Hugh Jackman’s cameo as Wolverine was the greatest. He was in total character, the way I’d imagine the first meeting between Wolverine and Xavier. Or perhaps, the often-grouchy Wolverine and pretty much anybody. I thought it was a nice touch.
I’m curious if Wolverine will be joining up with the X-Men in this rebooted sequence. X-Men: First Class continues to rake in money to justify a sequel and Wolverine will be continuing his saga with his own sequel. Will they eventually cross paths?
I’m hopeful that Fox (the studio with the rights to X-Men and Wolverine) is setting things in motion to include a bonafide X-Men movie. To me, it’s just not X-Men without Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Gray, Storm, Rogue, and Gambit.
Too bad that we’re likely not gonna see any Wolverine vs Hulk match-up anytime soon. That’s one of the popular Marvel comics ongoing saga and one of my favorite.
